If You go Away.
How many of you remember this song?
Let me rephrase my question ... How many of you KNOW this song? :-)
It's an evergreen and has been around since my childhood days when I was running around the kampung bushes looking for spider Kang or spider Boon.
This is not a history lesson on spiders, so go figure what I meant ... hehehe ;-)
This song has its impact on me and I would like to share this with the one person who thinks that I do not know that she reads my blog.
As Fred Toke would say, "We are all great pretenders."
Read the lyrics and imagine that your loved one is going away and you are trying to make him stay. You will frantically find excuses for him to at least delay his departure and if he has to go, you want something from him that will make him be with you, to hold in your hand.
Isn't it so romantic?
How I wish someone would sing this to me.
(Any french gal would suffice) ... hehehe
The lyrics itself is like a love poem. It speaks of the seasons. It speaks about the birds and the trees, the sun and the moon, the night and the day. A typical classic love poem. The final plea for her to be with him is that she would be 'the shadow of his shadow.'
Will you not stay if someone uses such metaphors? My heart missed a beat and somehow I can hear the girl's heart breaking as she begs.
It hurts :-(
But the song has a twist ... listen to the French verse and it's soooo beautiful.
Anyway, enjoy the song sung by Dusty Springfield ...
If you go away
On this summer day
Then you might as well
Take the sun away
All the birds that flew
In the summer sky
When our love was new
And our hearts were high
And the day was young
And the nights were long
And the moon stood still
For the night bird's song
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away
But if you stay
I'll make you a day
Like no day has been
Or will be again
We'll sail on the sun
We'll ride on the rain
We'll talk to the trees
And worship the wind
Then if you go
I'll understand
Leave me just enough love
To hold in my hand
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away
As I know you will
You must tell the world
To stop turning
'til you return again
If you ever do
For what good is love
Without loving you?
Can I tell you now
As you turn to go
I'll be dying slowly
'til the next hello
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away
But if you stay
I'll make you a night
Like no night has been
Or will be again
I'll sail on your smile
I'll ride on your touch
I'll talk to your eyes
That I love so much
But if you go
I won't cry
Though the good is gone
From the word goodbye
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away
As I know you must
There'll be nothing left
In this world to trust
Just an empty room
Full of empty space
Like the empty look
I see on your face
Oh I'd been the shadow
Of your shadow
If you might have kept me
By your side
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away
If you go away
